Mission: Silent Inheritance
Location: Lathira IV

///Lathira IV////

After tagging every single conduit on Lathira IV, the engineers were released with the promise that the next day would also be equally as busy. After a quick shower and a bite to eat, Ryan crashed in his bed. All too soon, his alarm woke him up at 0330. He put on a fresh uniform, went to engineering, and listened to the speech Commander Harlan had given.

“Good. Form up at your assigned stations and teams. It’s going to be a long, stressful shift—for the ship and for each other. But that’s why we’re here. Sometimes the galaxy needs a miracle, and Starfleet has to deliver. Stay safe. Don’t get hurt—Sickbay’s got enough on its plate. I’m dropping these in my office, then heading to Cargo Bay Three to kick this off.”

Everyone nodded. Ryan did have a choice of staying on the ship or helping with the colony below. Since he didn't particularly feel like fielding complaints from crew members who did *not* read the internal memo about the replicator power being redistributed, he opted for going back to the colony.

The fresh breeze and cold air hit him as they arrived. Multiple teams of engineers arrived at their assigned locations. Ryan nodded his greetings.

They did not have to wait long. Each conduit disappeared, held for a few seconds, only to replaced by a brand new one. They quickly got to work scanning for any faults.

"Never seen anything like this," one engineer said.

"No, neither have I," Ryan had to grudingly admit.

They still had a lot of work to do. The hours ticked by as they scanned the conduits, one after another. Ryan was lost in the work when he heard a short whistle behind him.

"I had to see it for myself," the constable's liason said. "I have to admit, Starfleet, I'm impressed. Normally this sort of work would take...weeks, months with my men. You all got it sorted for us within a day."

Ryan shrugged. "Wasn't my idea."

"Doesn't mean you didn't pitch in," the liason said. "Take the credit son. About what I said earlier-I was just messing with you. After what I've seen here, you and your fellow engineers are welcome back. Might even buy a drink for you all myself."

Ryan stared at him in surprise. "Thank...thank you."

"Don't mention it." The liason turned to go. "Just don't get stupid and break our stuff ever again."

"I didn't...ugh, never mind," Ryan said, seeing that he was joking.

The liason chuckled and left.

With a smile of his own, Ryan got back to work.
