Personality & Traits

General Overview Ryan is generally a cocky officer, determined to break from his 'rich family' mentality and become a Starfleet officer. But after a disastrous first outing, it is questionable if he has what it takes and constantly works to improve himself
Strengths & Weaknesses Ryan is physically fit and shows particular prowess with engineering/tactical thinking. He is very intuitive. If something doesn't seem right, he is the first to notice.

At the same time, he suffers from occasional confidence issues after his initial failures as a Starfleet Officer and is lacking in combat ability. He is also significantly allergic to cats and dropped out of xenobiology at the Academy, an issue which comes up sometimes when he tries to identify a species.
Hobbies & Interests Meditation, tinkering, listening to Vulcan music.

Personal History Ryan belongs to a relatively wealthy family, who wanted him to carry on the family business. In a fit of family rebellion, he decided to join Starfleet.

He passed Starfleet Academy and showed particular aptitude as an engineer. He was assigned to one particular science ship-the USS Thysia. Six months into his assignment the ship came under attack from the Borg. While details are sketchy, an investigation soon found that Ryan shot his own superior officer as a mistake. The borg were ultimately repelled and Ryan was investigated for his actions. It was determined that he killed his own supervisor during a moment of confusion and suffered PTSD as a result. An investigation later determined that Ryan was significantly inexperienced for the events that happened and his superior had also made mistakes which resulted in his loss of life. After six months of therapy, Ryan was returned back to active duty.

After serving on board the Arawyn, the true events of the USS Thysia were discovered during an encounter with the Chief Security Officer. It was revealed that Ryan had lied to the tribuneral and changed reports in an attempt to protect both his Benzite supervisor and Benzar as a whole, who viewed assimilation with extreme discrimination. He was encouraged to tell the truth. However he was stopped by the Captain who ordered him not to report this to Starfleet Command. Ryan now views this as a second chance and is committed to not compromise himself ever again.
