Mission: Arawyn’s Itchy Trigger Finger
///Engineering/////
The sudden explosion knocked Ryan off his feet. Conduits one after another exploded as multiple explosions rang through the area. He could hear people screaming. Others were moaning.
Where was Commander Harlan? He had just seen him a few minutes ago. But in the chaos he couldn't see him. Were they under attack? Ryan didn't know.
But in front of him he could see something very bad. The right plasma coolant tube attached to the warp core had shattered. Plasma was venting into engineering. Only an automatic emergency force field around the warp core had prevented anyone from getting killed.
A force field that could fail at any time. Or the Warp Core could breech.
Ryan had a quick decision to make. He got up, ran over to the terminal and made it.
VENT WARP CORE PLASMA.
WARNING: PLASMA VENTING MAY CAUSE POWER LOSS FAILURE. CONFIRM?
CONFIRM.
The computer acknowledged as the corrosive, radioactive plasma vented out of engineering. The warp core gave a final whining noise...and then died.
For a moment there was silence in the darkness, besides the occasional moans of engineering. Ryan tried his combadge. It was dead.
He took a deep breath, fighting away a moment of panic. This was damage control. His speciality. He would do his job.
The Arawyn would not be the Thysia.
He found a nearby engineer stumbling around. "Everyone, grab a flashlight. Sorensen, get a team together and look for the injured. If they can't walk on their own, get them to sickbay. Kate, get a team to start getting these fires under control. Get the emergency containment kits first. Someone look for Commander Harlan, and make sure he's okay."
In the meantime, he glanced at the terminal, trying to figure out how bad the mess actually was. There were a lot more things red rather than green.
