Personnel: ~30

Includes:

  • Materials scientists
  • Warp field theorists
  • Quantum mechanics specialists
  • Computational scientists

Often collaborates with Engineering on experimental modifications or anomaly-related system adaptations.

5. Mission Specialists & Field Science Teams

Personnel trained for planetary deployment and first-contact support roles.

Personnel: ~10–15

Includes:

  • Survey team leaders
  • Cultural science specialists
  • Environmental hazard officers

These teams frequently deploy with Security detachments.

Facilities

  • Multiple modular science laboratories
  • Dedicated xenobiology containment labs
  • Isolated biohazard research compartments
  • Stellar cartography complex
  • Sensor analysis centers integrated with Tactical
  • Planetary probe control suites

Laboratories are modular and reconfigurable for mission-specific research.

Operational Doctrine

Exploration

The Science Division conducts:

  • Long-range stellar surveys
  • Planetary classification
  • Pre-colonization environmental analysis
  • First-contact scientific assessments

Tactical Support

Due to the Sovereign’s combat-oriented design, the division maintains enhanced threat-analysis capabilities:

  • Rapid anomaly classification
  • Sensor countermeasure analysis
  • Subspace distortion mapping
  • Borg and Dominion-era adaptive response modeling

Science personnel are cross-trained in emergency procedures and damage response.

Duty Rotation

With approximately 200 personnel, the division operates on a three-shift rotation:

  • Alpha Shift: Primary research and command presence
  • Beta Shift: Ongoing experiments and survey continuity
  • Gamma Shift: Monitoring, anomaly tracking, data processing

Critical labs may operate continuously.
