Lt Steve Remington grinned amicably at the yeoman, who allowed him easy access to the inner sanctum of Sickbay. He marched to Amberlyn’s office to find her on the comm with someone and so he stood outside for a couple minutes before he heard his name, inviting him into the office.
“Good morning, Dr Amberlyn,” he said warmly. “I have come to see our guests. Can we talk to them yet?”
“Good morning, Dr Remington. Our guests are not receiving visitors at the moment. And we can communicate a little bit but are still waiting on the UTranslator. How else can I help you today?” replied Amberlyn with an equally warm smile.
“Lunch at 1300?” he asked hopefully.
“Sorry, appointments ‘til 1630,” she replied.
“Well, darn. Ok. What can you tell me about the aliens?”
“They are very cooperative and friendly,” she chuffed a laugh, and stopped. “Next question?”
“Come on Doctor. You can give me more than that,” he grumped.
“Ok, I’ll set you up with access to the data files that are not medically classified,” she began.
“I already have access to that.”
Riah smiled, clearly in a teasing mood. “Ok. I’ll clear you to the actual medical files that I'm allowed by protocol to share. But they are not specimens of exotic butterflies, Steve. They are people, with feelings, emotions and obviously great intelligence.”
“Can I just talk to one of them? Interact somehow?”
“There’s recordings of our interactions so far. You can watch. I’m not going to subject them to anymore people observing them. When we get the UT connection, I’ll let you know and you can come then, we they have a chance to observe back at'cha.”
She got up from her desk and came and stood before him, cupped his shoulders in her hands and spun him around toward the door, gave him a little shove.
“I guess you want me to go now,” he said sadly.
“Meet you in the Mess at 1830," she said to his back. "Not a date. Just dinner in the Mess, if you’ve a mind for it. Now go study your data files …my data files …the data files. Let me know if you learn anything exciting.”
